      Uku compatibility with plugins : SiteOrigin and Slider Revolution

      Hi,

      Would Uku work with Page Builder SiteOrigin and Slider Revolution plugins?
      I would like to be able to change the look of the Front Landin Page and include there a image slider. Also would be nice to have more options to build a page with a SiteOrigin page builder. Please let me know if they would be compatible.
      Thank you
      Shamack

        Hi Shamack,

        unfortunately Uku doesn’t support any page building plugins and isn’t especially prepared for additional slider plugins. Please be aware that in my experience you will run into problems with a page builder plugin and additional theme code adjustment will be necessary.

        Most slider plugins should work out of the box.

        Best,
        Marc

          Hi Shamack,

          special CSS styles are added to your images to disable dragging the images with webkit browsers. This results in the behavior you’re describing. I guess these styles are added by your “no-right-click-images plugin”.

          Please be aware that these types of plugins won’t protect your images from being copied and only make it harder for people with less technical knowledge. It also is quite annoying to live check your site for problems ;-)

          Best,
          Marc

          Regarding Uku – Ruapuke version

          Hi,

          I am interested in Uku Ruapuke version therefore I have few questions.

          1. Is it possible to use full screen slider in the place where the header image is placed in the demo? i would like to be able to apply few photos with different text.
          2. Is the Front Page being created by widgets?
          3. What information can be applied on a Front Page? For what purpose I could use different sections? Are they only for Latest Blog Posts display and Product display? Or it could be custom information? I would like to be able to use a calendar for events – EVENTON plugin. Is it possible to apply this type of calendar on the Front Page?
          4. Is it possible to change the font used for Ruapuke? Is that something which can be done through Settings or Child Theme?

          Thank you for your information

          Shamack

            Hi Shamack,

            1) currently Uku doesn’t provide such option, but I will forward this as feature request. As you can see here, Uku provides a post sider section for the blog page: http://themes.elmastudio.de/uku-ruapuke/blog/

            2) The posts page and the shop page can be filled with posts / products using the customizer. Please see the Uku-Ruapuke-Demo to check out which sections are available on each of the pages.

            3) Unfortunately there are no additional widget areas except for the blog sidebar on the posts page where you can place individual widgets. The other sections can be used with posts based on a category or tag. Nonetheless you can always individually customize the theme by adjusting the code itself. Therefore you can download and install a prepared child theme folder, linked in the Uku documentation. Please understand that we cannot provide help for individual customizations in the forum.

            4) With additional CSS code you can easily change the font of Ruapuke’s elements. Plugins or a child theme can be used to add additional Google Fonts for example.

            Best,
            Marc

            @marcj Hi
            I just started new thread as the old one was too long.
            I still have problem with a Tiled Gallery.
            I did delete the website data in Safari. I tried other browsers as well (Chrome and Mercury). It behave very strange and different way on iPad and differently on iPhone. There is no rule. The width is not correct sometimes in Blog and sometimes in Single Post. More of it. One post displays correctly and other not. Desktop seems to be ok. Would you be able to help with that?
            Thanks

                Hi, sorry for the late reply. Are you using the original JetPack plugin? I did set up a new installation with Moka and the original JetPack plugin and couldn’t reproduce the problems. I think there is a JavaScript function, which resizes the gallery. Maybe this is missing in other JetPack versions (maybe without needing a WordPress.com connection) or some other plugin is interfering with this function on your page.

                Best,
                Marc

                  Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Yes I use the original JetPack plugin and I am connected to WordPress.com.
                  I tried to switch off all other plugins as well and the problem still persist. As I mentioned before. It workd perfect on desktop but it makes troubles on my iPad and iPhone. More of it the problem sometimes occurs sometimes not. But most of the times is there. Which is really strange. Magic:)
                  How many photos did you upload in your test? I have about 120 photos in each gallery. Could that cause any potential problems?

                  Thanks

              Hi
              I use a Tiled Gallery for my blog.
              Recently started to have some problems.
              The gallery is correct when I browse my blog but when I go into particular post the gallery displays not correctly.
              The width of it is wider than the content width so some photos are getting lost.

              These are my Media settings:
              -Thumbnail size Width 500 Height 350
              -Medium size Medium size Max Width720 Max Height 480
              -Large size Large sizeMax Width 1070 Max Height 720

              I use the latest version of Moka and I use a Child theme and added function.php there as well. But I didn’t define anything regarding content size.
              I did inspect element in the Chrome and this is what I discovered.

              When I see the post from the position of the /blog the gallery is displayed correctly – this code:
              1| class=”tiled-gallery type-rectangular” data-original-width=”720″>

              But when I go inside of the particular post the gallery is too big and the code is as follows:

              2| class=”tiled-gallery type-rectangular tiled-gallery-unresized” data-original-width=”1070″>

              What would be a reason of that difference?

              Thanks
              Shamack

              Thanks

                  @prse: Hi, it seems that the defined content width is 1070 pixels, it should only be 720. Did you redefine the value in your child-theme? Are you using the latest version of Moka and have you added a functions.php to your child theme?

                        @prse: Please check your functions.php (parent theme), there should be the following two lines:

                        if ( ! isset( $content_width ) )
                        	$content_width = 720;

                        Try to remove the first line and check again the “data-original-width”-value. Please try to remove the child themes function.php and check again. Unfortunately I’m not able to reproduce this behavior. Maybe you can try to disable the other plugins, this article mentions a plugin to set the content-width without editing the functions.php: http://jetpack.me/support/tiled-galleries/

                        Best,

                          I am afraid non of this helps. I tried the options you mentioned above in different combinations plus I tried the content width plugin but no luck.
                          I deactivated all plugins as well and it stays the same. I Did try on PC and Ipad. No difference. Blog looks ok but when you go inside of particular post “data-original-width”-value is 1070 instead of 720.
                          Do you you think that could be the Theme issue or Jetpack plugin??
                          Are there any other solutions?

                  Hi @ellen

                  I checked Structured Data of my website: http://www.shamackphotographer.co.uk in Google Webmaster Tool and I found out 25 Items with Errors: “Missing: author” and “Missing: updated”.
                  A read a bit about it and as far as I understand it correctly there is something in a code that Google is missing in order to display correctly my Rich Snippets.
                  I read this article http://www.acceleratormarketing.com/trench-report/google-analytics-errors-and-structured-data/
                  And it says that there is something which could be changed in single.php file code and that would resolve the problem.
                  Unfortunately I couldn’t find in single.php the code they say about. I found a similar one in few other files like: content-page.php, content-single.php, content-sticky.php, content.php, functions.php,etc.
                  Unfortunately I don’t know much about coding so my question is.

                  Would you be able to have a look in to this?
                  Is it something that could be done and taken into account for the future Moka Theme Update if that would lead to better ‘Google Understanding’ of that THEME (if you know what I mean)?

                  Thanks for your help.

                  Regards
                  Shamack

                    Hi prse

                    I don’t know the “Moka Theme” code but i had the same issues with my Ubud Theme. I’ve changed some lines of code to solve the problem.
                    Perhaps my changes are working to the Moka Theme in a similar way …

                    To solve the “updated” issue, i’ve searched for a tag called “entry-date” in the files content.php and content-single.php.
                    This tags i have modified from

                    <div class="entry-date">

                    to

                    <div class="entry-date updated">

                    in both files (of my child theme).

                    Solving the Author issue was a little more difficult. At first i created i new class “nodisp” in the style.css file of my child theme as follows:

                    .nodisp {
                    	display: none;
                    }

                    After this, i’ve searced for a tag “

                    <div class="entry-details">

                    ” in the file content.php and inserted this code:

                    <div class="entry-author vcard">
                    		<span class="nodisp"><span class="fn"><?php echo get_the_author(); ?></span></span>
                    </div><!-- end .entry-author -->

                    right below the aformentioned tag “entry-details”. The “nodisp” class conceals the Authorname text for the human visitors.

                    In the file content-single.php i’ve searched for the following code:

                    <div class="entry-author">
                    				<?php
                    					printf( __( 'by <a href="%1$s" title="%2$s">%3$s</a>', 'ubud' ),
                    					esc_url( get_author_posts_url( get_the_author_meta( 'ID' ) ) ),
                    					sprintf( esc_attr__( 'All posts by %s', 'ubud' ), get_the_author() ),
                    					get_the_author() );
                    				?>
                    			</div><!-- end .entry-author -->

                    and made the following modifications:

                    Changed the

                    <div class="entry-author">

                    to

                    <div class="entry-author vcard">

                    and insert
                    the code

                    <span class="url fn">

                    as it looks as follows:

                    <div class="entry-details">
                    			<div class="entry-author vcard">
                    				<span class="url fn">
                    				<?php
                    					printf( __( 'by <a href="%1$s" title="%2$s">%3$s</a>', 'ubud' ),
                    					esc_url( get_author_posts_url( get_the_author_meta( 'ID' ) ) ),
                    					sprintf( esc_attr__( 'All posts by %s', 'ubud' ), get_the_author() ),

                      Hi @kai_r

                      Thanks for your help.

                      I have to mention that I found an information that if I fill in Wordepress Admin Panel the User Profile data it should resolve the problem so I am giving a go as well.
                      I updated my Google + Contact Info and added underneath WordPress Seo Settings: Title to use in Author Page and Meta description to use for Author page.
                      But I am not sure if that will resolve the issue.

                      IF NOT THEN I will try your code.

                      BUT I still would like to ask @ellen if she could have a look at this issue and advise.
                      Maybe this could be a good reason to change the code in all Themes and issue an update.
                      Eventual update fix could make the Themes even more attractive plus it would solve our problem of coding change.

                      If I understand correctly if this particular update will not be made we will have to change the code each time we upload new version of the theme.

                      Thanks
                      Shamack

                      Hi @kai_r

                      When you created a content.php and content-single.php. in Child Theme did you leave all of the code from the Parent Theme there?

                      Thanks

                    Hi Shamack,

                    you can add the additional Google Rich Snippets with WordPress-Plugins like:

                    https://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-schemaorg-rich-snippets/
                    http://wordpress.org/plugins/rich-contact-widget/
                    or
                    http://wordpress.org/plugins/authorsure/

                      Thanks @ellen

                      But will the above plugins resolve the Errors: “Missing: author” and “Missing: updated” which I get in Google Webmaster Tool in Structured Data ?
                      I think not…or I am wrong?

                      Thanks

                    Hi

                    I just updated a Moka theme to v1.1 and have a problem with my sticky post.
                    It shows only the Title plus the title has dot sign at the front for some reason.

                    Title of sticky post is London Wedding Photographer. It Displays correctly in blog.

                    Please advise.

                    Thank you

                      JUST an Update to above

                      Before the update of the Theme I had a additional code in front-page.php in order to display the slider

                      It was working fine.

                      But now, after an update to v1.1 it affects a Sticky post so it doesn’t display the text of it.
                      Coud you advise regarding that please.
                      How could I implement slider code now?

                      Thanks

                        Another update

                        I think there is something wrong with new update…
                        I had to go back to an old version.
                        New Moka has significantly takes much more space.
                        I runed a test for a Google Page speed. After an update my page was much slower that usual.
                        Plus above problem which is very important for me.
                        Please could you advise ASAP

                        Thanks

                      Hi Shamack, the slider option is only available since Moka version 1.1. But I think if you would only update your page template for your front page after the update to the new 1.1 verison, everything would work fine again.

                      I had to change the code for the sticky front page template, therefore saving your settings again is necessary. If you don’t want to use the slider option, you can just deactivate the Jetpack option for “Featured content” or not use the Jetpack plugin in general. The new update should not change the page speed very much, since the code hasn’t changed that much at all.

                      Maybe you can use a Cache plugin like WP Super Cache to improve page speed. These plugins are very helpful.
                      Best, Ellen

                        Hi @ellen

                        Thanks for your help. I solved the problem withe the slider. I think my FileZilla played some tricks when I tried to updated a new front-page.php in a childtheme.

                        Unfortunately page speed went down 10 points (from 85 to 75) which is quite significant. I have to mention that I’ve been already using WP Super Cache.
                        Why there would be such a difference?
                        I noticed that ol Theme had about 600kb, new one has about 900kb. Would that cause the slow down or other things?

                        How can I deactivate option for “Featured Content” in Jetpack. Where would that be?

                        Thanks
                        Shamack

                          Hi Shamack,

                          maybe it would help, if you deactivate all unneeded options of the Jetpack plugin (under Learn More / Deactivate) regarding the Page Speed.

                        @prse: Hi, after your purchase you got an email with a download link. You can use this link again to get the latest version.

                        After the download you can upload the content with an ftp client to your existing theme folder or simply deactivate the theme, delete it and reinstall the recent version.

                        Best,
                        Marc

                            Hi Shamack,

                            every browser renders the font a little bit different and if you use an old version of IE it could be that the Google Webfont Lato is not supported and the fallback font Helvetica is used. If you like you could link me to a screenshot and let me know, which version of IE you’re using, so I can help you further.

                            Best, Ellen

                              Hi Ellen
                              I tested my website on Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.16521.
                              Looks like LATO changes the font with the headlines. Paragraph seems to look ok.
                              You will see the difference if you compere the look with GOOGLE CHROME.

                              In addition to it I have a problem with BIG QUOTE Widget. I used there an external font style named Jellyka_Estrya_Handwriting. It is being imported through my style.css in childtheme.
                              And the same situation. Works perfect in CHROME and other browsers (Firefox, Safari) but it doesn’t work in EXPLORER.

                              Here is the access to the screenshots https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6OE33gCO_ULcHRsUVk3ektld0k&usp=sharing
                              You will find there:
                              1. Internet-Explorer-Lato-look
                              2. CHROME-Lato-look
                              3. Internet-Explorer-Jellyka-font-look
                              4. Chrome-Jellyka-font-look

                              Thanks for your help.

                                Hi Shamack: It seems that the new web font is not supported by Internet Explorer, since it is not the default code of the Moka theme it is difficult for me to find out why this problem occurs. Did you maybe google about this font problem with Internet Explorer?

                                Also, how did you include the new fonts, via the functions.php file?

                            I used in my child theme in a style.css code as below and it didn’t help.

                            #front-sidebar .widget_moka_about h3.about-title {color: #my color;}

                            Is there any other place I have to change a code as well?

                              I think it should work, if you add !important after your color value like so:

                              #front-sidebar .widget_moka_about h3.about-title {
                              color: #CEB38E !important;
                              }

                                        @prse, @dlzn: Hi, you can hide the tagline with the following CSS:

                                        #site-title h2.site-description {
                                        display: none;
                                        }

                                        It still remains in the source code of your website. I’m sorry, but I can’t tell how it affects the recognition by search engines.

                                      Hi

                                      How can I change the size, colour and font in ABOUT WIDGET?
                                      What code do I have to use?
                                      Can I do it in Child Theme in style.css ?

                                      Thanks for your help

                                          @prse: Hi, unfortunately we can not provide help for CSS customizations in the forum.

                                          Yes, you can use the child themes CSS file to accomplish your desired changes. The classes used by the widget are: about-info, about-title, about-text and about-links. Please search for “about” in the themes style.css to get an idea of the used properties for the about widget.

                                          Best,
                                          Marc

                                          Hi

                                          I don’t know much about programming but I think there might be a bug in MOKA theme?
                                          On a front page the Title of sticky Post is H2 then if you go inside it changes to H1.
                                          Why is that? Why on front page is not H1 as well?

                                            Well … if you look at H tags as they where ment by the people ho invented HTML, it’s not a way to mark sizes, but to create a structure, like it is e.g in word docs. So on the front page there shouldn’t be more than one “main headline”. This could be important for screen reading devices or RSS files afaik.

                                              @gekow: So is it important to have H1 on front page in terms of Seo?
                                              But if I add Heading 1 to the sticky post it doesn’t look nice together with the H2 Post Title.
                                              I am just trying to think what solutions for SEO would be them best but as well am thinking about a style.
                                              A little bit confusing. But maybe H1 is not so important for SEO?
