    I need the update for Tatami please I…

    I need the update for Tatami please. I don’t have the email that was sent to me still, but I have the invoice from 2013. I need to get it ASAP. WordPress is behaving very badly without it. Thank you!

      Hi Mollie,
      I already sent you an email about 2 days ago, did you also check your spam folder?

      Site header in Tatami theme off-center

      I noticed I am unable to center my logo in Tatami, because the theme design is off-center – the heading logo area does not align with the post image or column. By default it is off-center to the left of the center column by a significant amount of space. Additionally, the right column is narrower than the left column leaving the header alignment problem with the center column even more noticeable. You can see the problem here: http://www.poisonedpets.com. My logo is larger than Tatami’s, so it sits even farther to the right. Even if it were as small as Tatami’s (easy to change), it is still not aligning in the theme demo.

      Thank you, Mollie

        Hi Mollie,

        you’re right, the different widths of the sidebars are the reason for the content area being off center. If I see this correctly, you manually “moved” your logo to the left by adding blank space to its right. Do you still need assistance?

        I just realized your forum is running P2 – which may explain why I am getting the strange pop-up messages from P2 while on my website (www.poisonedpets.com) and while I am logged into your website. You might want to look into this. See my previous post for more details. I posted a question in the WordPress support forum just now as well.

          Hi there,
          the behavior of the P2 theme here on the forum site, is normal. The black pop up windows will show up, if someone posts new comment in the forum while you are logged in.
          But it should not show the pop up messages on your own site. Maybe you could try it again and make sure that you are logged out of the forum first?

            That is what is so concerning, while on my website I get these notices saying: ‘Whoops! Looks like you are not connected to the server. P2 could not connect with wordpress’. It happens while I attempt to refresh my site, and the refresh will not occur until sometimes minutes later – all the while it attempts to refresh or load – I get the popup error messages. I have contacted Automattic and they are looking into it. If you wish to follow my discussion with Automattic you can read about it here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/p2-never-installed-yet-error-messages-pop-up-saying-i-do?replies=3.

            Ellen, I got an answer back from Automattic about my problem with your theme P2.

            She asked if it was possible that I am using the same e-mail to login to your forum as wordpress.com. While I did not immediately remember which e-mail I used to register with your forum – I asked for a new password to be sent to one of my e-mail accounts.

            I never got an e-mail so I can assume it was not the one I tried.

            Here’s what the engineer said:

            “Since both your site and Elmastudio’s p2 forum are both running Jetpack it would be good to know if you’re using the same email address on both accounts. In other words, is the email address with which you’re signed up on the Elmastudio forum the same as the email connected to your Jetpack/WordPress.com account? If so, there may be some crossed wires, but this is just a theory at this point.

            If you’ve used the same email for both forum & Jetpack, you could you try changing the Elmastudio forum email address and see how that goes.”

          This post is going to sound crazy, but I assure you it is all happening on my website.

          I am having more trouble with my website after I installed the Tatami update 1.0.4.

          This latest problem is that now my custom fonts are not appearing as they should be. For example: I have designed the website (a long time ago) using the font europa not Ariel. Now all you see is Ariel – and it looks terrible!

          Another oddity is that sometimes my custom CSS (via Edit CSS) is applied and at other times it is not: The navigation menu sometimes reverts back to the original Tatami design – not my design.

          A few days ago the menu button appeared when viewing my site on a full size computer monitor when I had not clicked it – yet the menu button was always on the website – you could not get rid of it.

          I do not understand why the appearance of the site continually changes when I have not made ANY alterations to my custom CSS or made any changes in the Editor or added or removed any of WordPress’ plugins. All I have done is update to the latest version of WordPress, Jetpack, etc.

          And even stranger is that today, I was having difficulty loading my website when I got this bizarre pop up that said ‘Whoops! Looks like you are not connected to the server. P2 could not connect with wordpress’. But I don’t have P2 installed! I didn’t even know what P2 was until I Googled it. I only have two themes installed: Tatami and Twenty Fourteen.

          Now, it gets weirder: I got a similar popup (from P2) while on this website saying: ‘1 new comment(s)’. WTF?

          None of my problems may have anything to do with Tatami, but I thought I should just ask anyway.

          I will contact Automattic (the developer of P2, Jetpack and WordPress) and see what they have to say. My web developer person/helper is very sick, so I can’t ask her for help just now…

          Thanks anyway!

            If you take a look at my website http://www.poisonedpets.com/ there is something seriously wrong with it now. The logos are missing and the layout is missing the right sidebar entirely (unless you click the menu button, which now is always in the upper right hand corner). What happened? Help!

              it seems you choose a custom logo in your theme options, but you are using the two logo option (for different logos on mobile and desktop view). Please remove the URL in the custom logo field in your theme options in order to use the two logo option. Unfortunately there is still another CSS property in your custom css, which is preventing the logo from being shown.

              I guess you are using this code to remove some space around the logo in desktop view, please move the code into the media query at the end of your custom CSS code.

              Below 1260 pixels of browser width it is the default behavior of Tatami to hide the right sidebar off canvas in an extra menu. Unless you did change the original Tatami code before, the site should not be displayed in another way.

              Maybe you are using a computer with a 1280 pixels wide display and the browser window is not maximized.

              If you still think there is something wrong, please provide a screenshot, you can upload a screenshot to your WordPress media library and post the URL here.

              I don’t know what I did to screw up my website (www.poisonedpets.com), but since I unchecked the following share options in the Tatami theme options – there now is this large gap between the comment box and the nav bar on my posts (Help!):

              Share Buttons

              Share option for posts Check this box to include share buttons (for Twitter, Facebook, Google+) on your blogs front page and on single post pages.

              Share option on single posts only Check this box to include the share post buttons only on single posts (below the post content).

              Share option for pages Check this box to also include the share buttons on pages.

                I just noticed this update for all themes that was originally posted on April 4, 2014 (http://themeupdates.elmastudio.de/):

                “Bugfix: Updated jquery.fitvids.js in folder “js” to version 1.1. in order to fix browser font bug (fonts not appearing on first page load) (see js/jquery.fitvids.js)”

                How do we execute this update?

                  you can just download (with our original download link, or send me a note if you need a new link) and install the theme you are using again (either via FTP upload or by deleting and uploading the theme in the admin panel). Here is a small instruction about the update process as well: http://themeupdates.elmastudio.de/update-instruction/

                  Please just let me know, if you have any further questions or concerns.

                    Am I to assume that April’s update is separate from Tatami’s most recent update (Version 1.0.3 (February 20th 2014)?

                    • molliemorrissette 3:14 pm on June 1, 2014 Permalink | Log in to Reply

                      Never mind. I see that it is new (Version 1.04). You might want to update your changelog (http://www.elmastudio.de/wp-content/uploads/themes/tatami/tatami-changelog.txt) to reflect the 1.04 update. That is why I was confused.

                      I know this may sound crazy – but since I have made so many changes in my template files – is it possible to update only the file the bug fix is in? Otherwise, I have to make all those changes to my theme files once again.

                        Hi, I think you only need to replace the jquery.fitvids.js file. For future projects I recommend using a child theme to implement your changes. There are links to prepared child theme folders for all Elmastudio themes in their documentations. After installing and activating a child theme you can simply copy the files you want to edit into your child theme folder and implement your changes. Updating the parent theme won’t overwrite your changes and you do not have to fish for updated files :)

                  I would like to modify the default image placement in Tatami from flush left to center. How can I achieve this?

                  Thank you!

                  • Ellen (Support-Team) 10:33 am on May 30, 2014 Permalink | Log in to Reply

                    you can set the default image placement directly in your admin panel. If you set the image placement one time to center, WordPress will remember your setting for the next image placement.

                    If you want to change all left-aligned images that are posted on your blog already, you would need to change the CSS for the class “alignleft” in the Custom CSS, although I would actually not recommend that, since you might want to use left-aligned images later on. The CSS you would need to change under Theme Options / Custom CSS is:

                    .alignleft {
                    float: none !important;
                    display: block !importent;

                    This would force all left-aligned images to center in the content area and use the whole content area width, without the text to float around the image.
                    Best, Ellen

                    I am having a problem with two of the same images appearing on my individual posts. The featured images (above the headline) is a duplicate the one placed in the post via the editor (below the headline). Originally, Ellen asked me to remove some code in the content-single.php file and delete the follwing lines of code:

                    <a href="” title=”” class=”post-thumb”>

                    However, since the Tatami update the code (above) I need to remove is no longer there.

                      Hi, the code should still be in the file. Corresponding to your settings in the theme options the relevant lines are 17, 29 or 33. Removing the line hides your featured image in the posts. Are you using a child theme?

                      • molliemorrissette 4:18 pm on June 1, 2014 Permalink | Log in to Reply

                        Yes, I am using a child theme.

                        In the content-single.php file you mention removing one of these lines (17, 29 OR 33).

                        Line 17 is:
                        <a href="” title=”” class=”post-thumb”>

                        Line 29 is:
                        <a href="” title=”” class=”post-thumb”>

                        Line 33 is:
                        <a href="” title=”” class=”post-thumb-small”>

                        Can you clarify?

                        Also, I actually do not wish to hide the featured image on the post – I want to hide the duplicate image below the headline.

                        • Marc (Support-Team) 10:56 am on June 4, 2014 Permalink | Log in to Reply

                          The lines represent the three available settings in your theme options. You can simply delete all the lines.

                          I guess it would be to much work to delete the first images you placed into the posts via the editor? Can you show me an example page? I think we can hide the first image in your blog posts with CSS.

                      After updating Tatami I lost my Google CSE.

                      I’ve gone over my notes and now I wonder if I ever had it installed properly in the first place. After reading numerous tutorials on how to add it to a WordPress site without using a plugin – I am even more confused.

                      Ellen recommended replacing Tatami’s native search function in the sidebar-left.php template with the Google CSE code. However, that did not work. I do not want another search box to open in a separate pop up where people have to type in their search terms over again.

                      So, I tried another method. I added the code to the searchform.php template, but that didn’t work either — all I got was an error: “syntax error line 8”.

                      Then I was told to go to Appearance » Widgets to drag and drop the search widget into your sidebar using the Google CSE code. But Tatami search function is already in the menu. I don’t need two search boxes in the sidebar.

                      However, I do use the search widget in the footer, but that still does not address the problem.
                      (More …)

                          @molliemorrissette: As I emailed you before, I’m working on a solution for the forum. Since it is not so easy to find a working solution for a translation forum tool, I hope you will have some patience with us until we will get it up and running. But of course you can always ask your question in English as now and we will help you with your theme questions.

                          Regarding your posts, could you please include your site URL again? And if case you installed any plugins (like the Page Navi Plugin or so on), please try to remove them first to see if it works then. Thanks a lot, Ellen

                            Sorry! I’m sure you are working hard on it – you are not the only one with Google translate toolbar issues!

                            My website is http://www.poisonedpets.com. Just checked with Jetpack – I do not have their infinite scroll activated.

                            I have no nav plugins but the plugins I do have are: WordPress SEO, Akismet, Jetpack, Microkids Related Posts (highly recommend), Google CSE, Hotfix, Sucuri Security, WPtouch Mobile Plugin and that’s it!

                            It was working once…But, now it doesn’t.

                            I love your designs though!

                            p.s. Google Translate is still stuck on 3% translation. Maybe I should learn how to read German! Seriously.

                                Sorry for any confusion Marc. I want the click to read older posts to work – currently it does not.

                                Go see on http://www.poisonedpets.com.

                                The same problem occurs with search results or tag search results – only the first four (or five) results appear, and after that one must click to read the older posts/results.

                                I only mentioned the ‘infinite scroll’ in Jetpack because it is supposed to have a similar effect that Tatami did: The ‘click to read older posts’ would seamlessly load on page without switching to a new page.

                                I thought perhaps I had activated Jetpack ‘infinite scroll’ feature, but in fact I could never have activated that feature as Jetpack has it disabled on my site because my theme does not support infinite scroll.

                                I hope that clarifies my issue.

                                Thanks Marc!

                                  @molliemorrissette: Thank you for the clarification. The seamless loading per button is a feature of the “infinite scroll” plugin, even if “infinite scrolling” is disabled. Please check your JetPack settings (Dashboard -> JetPack), I think there should be a “Learn More” button (in the infinite scroll box) and after clicking it a “deactivate” button should appear.

                                  This should restore the default behavior (with switching to new pages) and we can get to the bottom of the problem :)

                          Hi Ellen!

                          I try to follow the forum posts, but the Google translate toolbar is as buggy as hell. It works very rarely and most of the time it hangs in the translation process (0%!) forever. As I can’t read German, and most of your users are German, I am at a terrible disadvantage.

                          I have Googled for fixes to the Google translate toolbar used on your forum site, but all the fixes relate to the admin side, not my side. They simply say it is a problem only you can fix, hopefully!

                          Also, the Google translate toolbar messes with your layout, big time. Sometimes when I click the translate button your entire layout changes (and not in a good way). It changes words/links into gigantic single letters (example: Tatami becomes a giant T) and it mashes up your links so that they overlap and cannot be used (for example: ‘toggle comments’ and ‘keyboard shortcuts’ overlap) – so all one can view are the posts and none of the replies.

                          Also, if your mouse lingers over some of the links (not all of them), a translate toolbox pops up instead. Example: hover over ‘toggle comments’ and a Google translate pop up box somehow connects ‘recent updates’, ‘toggle comments’, and ‘keyboard shortcuts’ and are somehow linked together telling you what the original text was (‘recent updates’, ‘toggle comments’, and ‘keyboard shortcuts’ ) and asks you if you would like to contribute to a better translation!

                          Right now as I write this post Google translation progress is perpetually stuck on 10% – it simply loads and loads and loads, but never progresses.

                          All the best from the US – Mollie

                            @molliemorrissette: Thank you so much for letting me know. Okay, I will work in this problem as soon as possible and try to find a better solution or fix the Google Translator. I’m very sorry that you are having trouble following the posts. As a first solution, maybe it works better, if you first filter the posts by theme (via the links in the sidebar) so that there are not so many posts to translate.

                            But again, I will definitely work on it…
                            Best regards, Ellen

                            Hi Ellen!

                            I love your designs and I am working with Tatami now on my website http://www.PoisonedPets.com and I think it looks great so far.

                            However, there are just a few things I am having trouble with customizing:

                            1. I want to customize the social icon color, but I can’t figure out where to do that.

                            2. Also, the menu on the left has a light grey background for the parent pages – I would like to customize that color as well, but I can’t seem to find out how.

                            3. I have the code for a Google’s Custom Search widget, I tried to replace the default search (in the upper left hand-side of the theme) in theme functions file, however both search widgets showed up. And oddly, the Google custom search widget also showed up in the footer! Strange.

                            I was afraid to remove the default search in the functions code, but perhaps that is what I should do. But as I was nervous about doing that, in addition Google’s logo which is supposed to fit inside the search box – does not – it pops out of the search box (half way in and half way out). I would like to eliminate their logo altogether, perhaps that would do the trick.

                            Adding Google’s search function to WordPress is something everyone should consider, as WordPress’ search function is notoriously horrible.

                            4. Oops, I almost forgot – what image width is recommended for the sidebars?

                            5. I tried adding a link to the About image via the edit image function in Tatami’s About widget – but it will not become active – the image is not linked to the location (PayPal donations).

                            6. Has anyone successfully added a responsive slider and/or a sticky responsive navigation menu to Tatami?

                            7. Has anyone checked their page speed with Google Page Speed Insights before and after switching to a new theme? I did and it was really scary: It went from a Grade B to a Grade D & some Grade F’s. My previous theme, which I thought was awful, was actually was much, much faster. I am worried now because Google will downgrade your site if it’s slow.

                            8. My old theme images were smaller than Tatami’s featured image sizes, which is OK – they are almost big enough. But the default in Tatami is flush left and I would prefer to center the featured image thumbnails. How do I do that? I started converting all my featured images to another (larger) size using the plugin you recommend, but it was taking forever as I have over 3000 images on my site.

                            Ellen, what do you think of these tools (below) and have you used them to test your work? Do you think they have any value to the end consumer?

                            For me, as a complete noob when it comes to web dev, they are daunting, frustrating and of course confusing as Hell for a nincompoop like me.

                            The “experts” warn consumers about badly coded and bloated themes and suggest using these tools, which is fine if you know what you’re looking at. But the tools only succeeded in driving me nuts. I eventually stopped using them, gave up and went back to the original designs I loved in the first place – yours!

                            Thank you so much for your fantastic work!

                              @molliemorrissette: Thanks so much for your great feedback, I’m happy that you like the theme. Unfortunately we can not provide help for CSS customizations like color changes and so on here in the forum, but you can find out the style changes with the help of tools like Firebug or the native CSS tools in the Chrome or Safari browser.

                              Regarding the search form, yes, you would have to delete the native search form directly in the template file sidebar-left.php, see the code:

                              <?php get_search_form(); ?>

                              Images in the sidebar should be at least 240px to be full width.

                              Regarding the page speed, from testing if you use the Tatami theme without any plugins or the share buttons, the speed should not be too slow. Did you add any additional plugins or functions to the theme after changing to Tatami?

                              You can use the “Regenerate Thumbnail” WordPress plugin to change the thumbnail sizes for Tatami, first you need to change the thumbnail sizes in Settings/ Media/ (840px fr big thumbnails, 760px for thumbs below the title), then you can run the plugin once and the thumbnail sizes should change.

                              In general, yes, we test all our themes with tools like page speed and validation, but there are also some things we can’t change since it would not work with the theme functionality. But I just prepared a Tatami update (will release it later today) with some further improvements also on the page speed. For the HTML validation, some reported “errors” are actually not direct theme code, but share buttons code or direct WordPress code. So I can not change them.

                              I hope my answer is helpful. Best, Ellen

                                I’m also looking forward to the Tatami update. But where or how can i get the updated version?

                                I also love the tweaks and changes you did to http://www.elmastudio.de, especially the new more compact menu style, the language switcher and the different logos for varying widths. Are these also part of the update? If not, could you give me some tips how you did those things?

                                Thanks in advance & best greetings from Aachen,

                                Thank you Ellen for your great response.

                                Yes, I am a great Fan of Firebug – I use it frequently!

                                I will give Google search another try – thanks for the info. I figured I would have to take out the native search function. I was going to remove it from the functions.php file. Oops!

                                I changed my thumbs to the media sizes you recommended – but what if I just want to center my old/original (smaller) sized images without using the regenerate thumbs plugin? I suppose I could figure it out in Firebug. Silly me.

                                I suppose I could just use the plugin and then uninstall it.

                                Re: Page Speed Insights – No, I didn’t install any new plugins – I am religious about keeping the number to the bare bones. I only use Jetpack, Akismet, Yoast’s SEO plugin, and a couple of others.

                                Thanks for sending out the Tatami update! Now, I just need to remember how to install just the updated files or do I simply install the entire new (updated) theme. God, it’s terrible being so dumb. But that’s what Google is for!

                                Thanks again for your fantastic themes! I had been searching for weeksand weeks (I am VERY picky), then the minute I saw yours I new my search had come to an end. Funny, the only other designers work I appreciated live in Europe as well. Oddly, my sister, who lives in Vienna, said I would fit in perfectly there because I love everything to be tidy and organized!

                                I did it! I got the Google custom search engine up and running inside Tatami! Sort of…it’s not perfect.

                                I took out the native search function from the sidebar-left.php as you recommended and plopped the Google CSE V1 code into the search-results.php file because I want the search results to open in a hover page. Then I used the text widget to enter Google’s CSE shortcode to show the Google CSE search box, but all it it did was show this itty-bitty-teeny-tiny box buried under the main menu nav.

                                Even though the widget was placed in the no. 1 spot, it would not post to the top left sidebar (as the original Tatami search box was located).

                                So, I added the Tatami native search function back in, so now — and this is the bad part — when you type in your search terms a Google CSE box appears where you must type in your search query once more. But at least you get good results — eventually!

                                My poor Tatami search box looks a little goofy now too as well. Oh well…

                                Thanks for the support!

                                Best, Mollie
