      Hi all,

      I’m wondering if there is a way to control the order of the recent post feeds in Zuki using the widgets. Right now I just have my latest posts using the big widget and then the other recent posts with the medium widget below – as you can see (http://bethanyholmstrom.net) it looks a little silly because the one post (the latest and then the rest below) repeats between the big and the medium widget displays. I was hoping to divide it up by category slugs, but that is apparently not an option when I used the big main menu for my page content rather than a category filter (but if I am wrong on this front, please do let me know). I’m sure there is some kind of php file code I will need to mess with, but any guidance would be appreciated.

      It’s a great theme – having a lot of fun working with it thus far.

        Hi @bethanyholmstrom,

        the only way you can control the content in the posts widgets are categories. You could leave one widget just with the latest posts, but then the posts will get repeated, if they get included in another widget using a category. Unfortunately there is no other way, alternatively you could not use a latest posts widget but rather a featured content one, so you could give all posts a category “featured” instead of the latest posts.

        Best, Ellen

        Tags: , , , word breaks

        Hi Ellen and all,

        I just uploaded the new Moka theme update, and it did really weird/bad things to my blog post text. It created line/word breaks by spacing and did not use hyphens, so everything was pretty much impossible to read (words break after the first letter, with no hyphen – it was a mess!).

        This was the code that seemed to pose an issue:

         .entry-content p, .entry-summary p, .entry-content ul, .entry-content ol {
            word-break: break-all;

        I changed it to the following:

        .entry-content p, .entry-summary p, .entry-content ul, .entry-content ol {
            word-break: normal;

        It’s fixed the issue, but I thought you all should know that the update did this to my blog post text in several browsers.

          oh, I just caught that I also had to change the code in the h1-6 because the same issue was occurring – again, I put in “normal” for “break-all.”

          Let me know if there is another way around this, but this was the quickest fix I could find!

            Ack- and the following!

            #front-sidebar .widget_moka_quote p.quote-text, #front-sidebar .widget_moka_about h3.about-title {
                word-break: break-all;

            Hope I caught it all!

            @bethanyholmstrom, @formicula: Thanks for letting me know and posting the fix here, I will look into the issue again and prepare a bugfix for the next Moka update in the next days after Christmas to find a better solution for all users. I’m sorry if this caused you trouble.

            Best, Ellen

          Thanks bethany, i had the same problem and fixed it thanks to your post. Wouldn’t it be nice to have this as a theme option in the backend to chose?

          Hi Ellen, Marc, and all,

          Whenever I click on the buttons to go to the sidebar menus in Oita, my custom background image disappears alongside the open sidebar (it’s a white screen now). I know there must be an easy way to fix this, but I’m simply not figuring it out (I’ve fiddled with the tile arrangements, but I’m assuming there’s some code I’m missing at this point). I compared the code I have for that in Firebug against other Oita users, but no luck figuring out what’s missing thus far. Any suggestions? In case you need a visual: http://bethanyholmstrom.net/.

            @bethanyholmstrom: Hi, setting the background-image for the .content-wrap should display the background in both situations (with closed and opened sidebars).

              Hi Marc:

              I used the following code(s):

              .content-wrap {

              and this:

              .active-nav #content-wrap,
              .active-sidebar #content-wrap {
              	background: url("http://bethanyholmstrom.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/IMG_03951.jpg");

              I’m still seeing an all-white background. Any other suggestions, or am I missing something?

              Best, and thanks,

                I’m wondering if there is a way that I can make the background image bigger and if that will fix this issue – when I used the .content-wrap code above, the background image actually scrolled (not something I wanted it to do, and still not fixing the white space issue!) instead of remaining fixed. Whenever I upload a seemingly large image, the only background image that gets displayed in the “Background” option preview window reduces the image’s size and crops it automatically. I’m forced to tile it so that I get a full background image on mobile devices and larger screens. I’m not seeing anything in the css file to manipulate that image to make it larger, but I’m wondering if that would fix the issue. That’s the only thing I can figure – that the tiling itself is preventing the background image from carrying over when the side-bar menus pop up…

                Hi Bethany, I think something went wrong while copying the code, did you edit your post? (editing sometimes breaks the code in the code-tags) Please try the following code:

                .content-wrap {
                background: url(http://bethanyholmstrom.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/IMG_03951.jpg) fixed !important;

                  Hi Marc,

                  The code did get a little off with my cut-and-paste job, sorry.

                  I tried the code you sent (thanks!) but it’s still not fixing the white space (booo).

                  Any other suggestions?

                    Hi again, sorry, the code-tag seems to mess up the URL. I’m trying to paste the code again, but you need to replace the $-signs by hand:

                    .content-wrap {
                    background: url("http$$$bethanyholmstrom$net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/IMG_03951$jpg") fixed !important;

                    That last bit of code worked – thanks so much (again) Marc! You have been really helpful and patient…

            Tags: button background color, off-canvas nav button,

            Hi Ellen and all,

            I’m trying to change the background color for the menu & sidebar nav buttons in Oita. When I changed the background color in CSS in Firebug, it looked just fine, but when I put the code into the editor and deleted the cache, the buttons came out with the correct background color, but no dashes/squares within the box (I left them as-is to better show what I’m talking about: http://bethanyholmstrom.net/). Is there any way to make sure those dash/square images are not deleted when changing the background color, or do I have to either a.) find a way to try and edit the .png image file (eek!), or b.) just give up and leave the buttons with the original color?

            Code I used:

            .off-canvas-nav .sidebar-button {
                background: url("images/sidebar-btn.png") no-repeat scroll 50% 0 #C0392B;
            .off-canvas-nav .menu-button {
                background: url("images/menu-btn.png") no-repeat scroll 50% 0 #C0392B;

            Thanks so much for any/all advice, really enjoying the theme!

              @bethanyholmstrom: Hi, you are using a child theme, so your browser is looking in your child themes directory for the images. Please try to change only the color by using the “background-color” property. Something like this should work:

              .off-canvas-nav .sidebar-button {
                  background-color: #C0392B;

              Hi all,

              I have a few things I’m trying to figure out in Oita.

              First: I’d like to get rid of the author name in the posts, thought I am not entirely sure where/what code to delete.

              Second: I’m also not sure how to eliminate the post format displayed in the upper right hand of the post. I’ve dug through the stylesheet and the .php functions to try and get rid of the author name and post format, but the line that I can delete/modify to fix either of these is not clear to me right now. I managed to figure out how to get rid of the author name in Pohutukawa, but I haven’t figured it out for this theme yet.

              As to the site title: I figured out how to make the background of the header not white (and display my own background image instead), but I can’t seem to over-ride the code for the h1 site title color. I’ve done separate code lines in the stylesheet to make h1 a different color than my chosen theme option color, but it seems the text color in theme options wins out every time.

              Finally, when I switch the footer menu and navigation text at the bottom of the page to white (to be better seen against my background image), the text stays white on mobile devices (i.e., it disappears, because the background on the mobile device is ALL white). Any suggestions?

              The site is: http://bethanyholmstrom.net/

              Thanks for any help folks can offer.

                I figured out the h1/site title over-ride (just using important in the CSS), but any help anyone can offer on the author name, post format, and mobile nav menu would still be appreciated!

                1. You would have to delete the following code in all files with “content” (like content.php, content-single.php …):

                <?php if ( get_post_format() ) : // Show author link only for standard posts ?>
                <?php else: ?>
                <li class="post-author">
                printf( __( '<a href="%1$s" title="%2$s">%3$s</a>, ', 'oita' ),
                esc_url( get_author_posts_url( get_the_author_meta( 'ID' ) ) ),
                sprintf( esc_attr__( 'All posts by %s', 'oita' ), get_the_author() ),
                get_the_author() );
                <?php endif; ?>

                2. For the post format the code to delete is:

                <div class="postformat-label"><?php _e( 'Article', 'oita' ); ?></div>

                in content.php and in content-image.php, content-quote.php and so on.

                3. You probably only have to change the text to white starting from the media queries for laptop view min-width: 1160px, so you would need to add the code at the bottom of your stylesheet inside the media query:

                @media screen and (min-width: 1160px) {
                Your Code here...

                Best, Ellen

                  Thanks so much, Ellen! I had made the post format text white for the moment – but this obviously seems like a much better fix.

                  Much appreciated, and I love the themes and work you all do.

                  Thanks again,

                  Hi there all,

                  I was wondering if there was a way to change the code in Nilmini to get the Custom Header Slogan ONLY on my home/front page (the actual blog section). I *think* I have to change the code from the theme’s header.php (lines 117-121). Any ideas? I tried to doing a condition (if_home_page) sort of command instead of the “echo” part in line 120, but it turned into a hot mess and I had to give up.

                  I’m new to code, so it might be an obvious/quick fix and I’m just not figuring it out!

                  Thanks for any help,

                    Hi all,

                    I’m using the Pohutukawa theme for my blog (bethanyholmstrom.net), but I’m having trouble with the favicon. I used one of the favicon generators, I loaded it into the main directory on Filezilla (so that it is simply the blogname/favicon.ico address) and I loaded it into the child theme via FTP, but it’s still not appearing (days later, after clearing my webcache). Am I putting it in the wrong place in the FTP client? Should it be in the parent theme, and if so, where?

                    Thanks for any advice,
